O'Brien Bookseller of the Year Award

The O'Brien Bookseller of the Year Award has been presented annually since 1995 in recognition of outstanding achievement or an invaluable contribution to the book trade by an individual bookseller.

THE AWARD

The Elements, a bronze perpetual trophy sculpted by Rowan Gillespie, one of Ireland's leading sculptors. The winner also receives a framed commemorative certificate.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Any Bookseller who:

  • operates on the island of Ireland
  • works in, manages or owns a bookselling business
  • has a minimum of three years' experience as a bookseller in Ireland (not necessarily with the same company)

AWARD DATE

The 2018 Bookseller of the Year award was presented at the Booksellers Association annual dinner on Friday 23 March 2018. The winner is Liz Walsh of Stone House Books, Kilkenny.

The judges' citation reads

Through a nearly forty-year career, her passion and commitment to books and her community has always been worn on her sleeve.
Always pro-active, creative and hard-working, she bravely opened her own shop in a very competitive environment.
She is a warm, tenacious, knowledgeable, passionate and positive bookseller.

Huge congratulations to Liz, another worthy winner to add to the list of fantastic booksellers who have won the award through the years.
