From the author of the award-winning Exploring The Book of Kells, comes the real story of St. Patrick, Ireland's most famous saint.
Many legends, stories and traditions have grown up over the centuries about Ireland's most famous Saint. George Otto Simms goes back to Patrick's Confession and his other writings to separate the man from the myth. What emerges is a fascinating true story of a man of great strength, his adventures and trials, told in a way that will appeal to both young and old.
David Rooney's charming illustrations show St. Patrick's arrival in Ireland, his powerful visions and his battles with the druids. Early Celtic artefacts and details from the ninth century Book of Armagh also illustrate the text.
George Otto Simms was an eminent historian and recognised expert on old Irish manuscripts. His other books, Exploring the Book of Kells, and Brendan the Navigator, are both winners of the Bisto Book of the Decade Award. A former Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland, he spent his life in the work of the Church and in scholarly research. George Otto Simms died in 1991. St Patrick was his last published work.
